When I Grow Up

When I Grow Up

"When I grow up," proudly said Sam,

"I am going to be a garbage man--

To New Jersey I think I'll go,

To Boston, New York, then Idaho,

Collecting treasures along the way,

A garbage man I'll be someday!"

"When I grow up," said Emily,

"A scientist I mean to be,

Searching for cures to all disease,

I'll experiment as I please,

Learning new facts every day,

Exploring atoms my own way!"

"When I grow up," said dreamy Ben,

"I'll make a living with my pen,

Adventures with words on a page,

Writing the silly and the sage,

And when your careers are all done,

I'll still be having lots of fun!"
