Sand Painting

Sand Painting

Materials:

Pencil

A variety of colored craft sand

Glue

Paintbrush

Black Tempera Paint

Piece of craft foam-any color

Frame

Small decorative shells

Cut the craft foam to the size of frame you are using. Frames can be with or without glass. If younger children are doing this craft, it might be best to use frames with plastic "glass".

With a pencil, draw out the design you are going to paint with sand. It can be abstract or real things. There is no right and wrong.

Paint sections one at a time with the glue.

Cover the "painted" section with sand.

Shake off excess sand.

Continue to paint one section at a time with the glue and sand until the entire design is complete.

With a fine tipped paintbrush and a very small amount of black tempera paint, outline each shape in the design.

Decorate with small shells if desired. (Make sure to leave about 3/4 inch edge to allow for the picture frame if you choose to do this.)

Place sand painting in picture frame.

Decorate the picture frame by gluing small shells to the frame.
